My Hero's at Home
FOR THE LOVE OF DOG!!! That drive to Bancroft to pick up my little puppy was crazy, but well worth it of course. The house where the kennel was located was really quint and cute. It still had all the Christmas decorations up. I felt like I was at a little house on the prairie but it was more like Big house in Bancroft.
When we got to the house, we were kindly greeted by Bobbie-Jo, the person who was in charge that I had been corresponding with over emails for over a week. She took us upstairs to a room right next to the kitchen where the doggy kennel was located. There were 2 rows and around 5 sets of cages where all the dogs were... and there was one where my Hero and his two brothers were.
Oh, I couldn't believe he had an all black brother and I mean no prejudice in that at all! It's just that his mother is white and his dad is golden - so where did the black come from? Bobbie-Jo said that when puppies are born, it's like a crap shoot because you'll never know what will come out. I mean he was cute, but I didn't even consider him at all because that's not my cup of tea.
So between the two golden brothers, I had a pretty tough time choosing Hero because they both looked identical. I read that there are ways to choose the "best puppy" but I didn't print out anything, so I just went by instinct. It wasn't rocket science that's for sure. I simply did one test... I rolled each one of them over and tried to pet their tummies. The one who ended up being Hero was totally submissive to the whole thing and was loving it - probably a bit too much. When I did the same to his brother, he was all squeamish about the whole thing and kept trying to get away... so I took that as a sign. Hero actually stepped on his head and started jumping on his brother when I tried to pet him too... it was then and there that I knew he was the one.
I felt bad for his two brothers that were left behind, but I could only have one Hero.

It was a 3 hour drive there and a brutal 4 hour drive back because it started snow storming. We knew it was going to be a long drive, so we stopped once to take Hero outside for potty, but he had no idea what to do. He just kept shivering and sinking in the snow... it was pretty hilarious and frustrating at the same time. Poor Hero got car sick and threw up 3 times. That wasn't fun at all and luckily I had the pee pad on my lap where he was sitting, but he did end up yacking on his blankie too. He felt so precious in my hands and I love how he snuggled into every little crevice making sure his body was next to mine to keep him warm. He finally fell asleep when we were almost back in the city...
I had to wake him up when we finally arrived back to my condo... he was ready to go to his new home and I was welcoming him with open arms. =)
